Reading Your Bible is the Best Way to Have a Great Day

Dear Friends,

Today I want to talk about how reading your Bible is the best way to have a great day! We are into the soul section of the healthy habits series and there is really nothing better for the soul, in my opinion, than reading your Bible. We all have faith in something, because I am a Christian I have faith in God. Nurturing your faith is truly soul food.

I believe the absolute best way to nurture your Christian faith is specifically to read your Bible. I say your Bible specifically; because that seems to be the best way for you to have a personal relationship with God. I don’t have anything against reading devotionals or commentary, I think they can be very valuable tools. Devotionals are a daily read that tends to be; an individual’s story or praise of God, His creation, and how He works in our lives. These devotionals have a few verses from the Bible that relates to the topic of each day’s devotion. Devotionals I see as a tool that is very inspiring, and a good way to encourage us to pursue a greater relationship with God. Bible commentaries, such as the one by John MacArthur, are meant to help you understand the Bible. Commentaries can do anything from; provide you with context for a specific passage, or give you a definition, or tell you a word in the original language, Hebrew or Greek, and what it literally translates to which points to the meaning of the verse. This is why Bible commentaries are also a very useful tool in understanding and growing in your faith. Devotionals and commentaries are ultimately someone else’s interpretation of the Bible and are really great at pointing you toward pursuing a personal relationship with God.

Having a personal relationship with God is what is going to be the strongest foundation for your faith. Do you have a personal relationship with God? What even is a personal relationship with God? According to Got Questions “People who have a personal relationship with God include Him in their daily lives.” There are many ways to do this but the two that come to mind for me are praying and reading my Bible. The Bible is also called His Word because it is the inspired word of God. This means the Bible is like God speaking directly to us. If we want to have a relationship with Him we should seek out what He says directly not what others interpret Him saying like a middle man. That is the main reason I think it is important to read the Bible specifically. Having a personal relationship with God involves reading His Word daily, which is one of the reasons reading your Bible is the best way to have a great day!

Reading your Bible

I have heard it said that no two people read the same book, this is because we all have our own unique interpretation of the book. I would go so far as to say that in the case of the Bible, you never read the same book twice. By this I mean that your interpretation of the Bible changes almost every time you read it based on your age, your mood, and the season of life you’re in. U.S. President Ronald Reagan said of the Bible that; “inside its pages lie all the answers to all the problems that man has ever known.” I agree with that because you will find the answers you’re looking for or the answers that you need because of reading it differently based on your circumstances. That is how you can read the same verse at age 5, 20, 35, and 50, and take away something different each time.

God knows what you need and when you need it. You have to have faith that He will guide you to the passage you need to read, or give you the interpretation of a passage that you read, when you need it. We were made to have a relationship with Him. Reading the Bible is one of the ways we foster that relationship because it is one of the ways that we hear from Him.

Focusing on fostering your relationship with God on a daily basis by reading His Word is so good for you. It helps to lift the feeling of the weight of the world being on your shoulders which decreases anxiety and depression and conversely increases happiness. You can lean into your relationship with God during times of difficulty allowing you to persevere longer which increases your grit and resilience. Reading the Bible even “increased flourishing in military families” according to a longitudinal study conducted during 2021-2022.

I hope you try reading your Bible every day even if it is just for a few minutes because it really does make a difference in your life for the better. If you don’t know where to start try Proverbs for wisdom, the gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke. and John, to read about Jesus’ life on earth, or start in the beginning in Genesis. If you would like, please consider sharing in the comments how reading the Bible daily has positively effected your life. I hope I have been able to encourage you in this post.

Your Friend,

Amanda
